“…the world is incomprehensibly beautiful – an endless prospect of magic and wonder.” Ansel Adams
Visitors to Deep Rooted are invited to participate in a wild flower scavenger hunt! Grab a card depicting one of 3 local wildflowers at the Deep Rooted art installation at SOMOS on Saturday, September 28th, 2019. Then find a living example of that plant around town, snap a photo, and post it here. Include a comment on the experience if you’d like. One winner will be chosen from the submissions to receive a signed Deep Rooted poster. Image must by posted by October 7th for a chance to win.
Deep Rooted is a temporary site-specific art installation commissioned by SOMOS Abq 2019. The piece involves the creation and destruction of a 10 foot circular sand painting of flowers native to New Mexico. Through colorful depictions of local plants, nature is reintroduced into the paved environment of Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza. The work is then offered up to the unpredictable impulses of both weather and human actions. Deep Rooted invites viewers to reflect on the beauty and value of native plants as well as the resilience and potential fragility of our natural environment.
