Women Exploring Self-Expression 3/18/17
with Natalie Voelker and Alexis Kaminsky
Have you found yourself stuck, frozen by your own inner critic or fear of what others might think of your creative endeavors? We’ve all been there. In this workshop we will write, draw, paint, and talk. We play with different modes of self-expression because we know that they each engage unique aspects of our creative selves. Our goals are simple: (1) creating a space where individuals feel free to express themselves and (2) supporting each other to move from self-criticism to acceptance.
The writing practice led by Alexis Kaminsky is modeled on Natalie Goldberg’s process developed in Writing Down the Bones. In that process, we write, read, and listen, practicing non-judgement and non-attachment.
The visual art component, guided by Natalie Voelker, centers on expressive self-portraiture. Participants use 2D mixed-media layering techniques to build up a unique, free-form expression of self, rooted in process and exploration.
Previous art or writing experience not required. Please bring your own notebook and pen/pencils for the writing portion of the workshop. Art supplies provides but participants are welcome to bring additional acrylic paint and/or collage materials.
